Erlaufschlucht

A natural monument of international importance, just a 15-minute walk from the campsite.
The wild and romantic conglomerate gorge was formed over thousands of years after the last Ice Age.
Through erosion and the effects of frost, massive conglomerate blocks gradually slipped from the banks and collapsed or fell into one another.
This created deep crevices and gorges that shape the landscape.

The gorge is located within the European protected area Natura 2000 and has been designated a natural monument since 1972 due to its unique landscape features and water areas.

The “Fischersteig” runs along the left riverbank directly through the gorge, right by the water. Sturdy footwear is required.
On both sides of the Erlauf Gorge, an almost level circular trail runs for about 3.8 km and is easy to walk.
