The UNESCO World Heritage Site along the Danube lies between Melk and Krems and is characterised by a unique landscape, apricot orchards and vineyards.
The Wachau region is best explored by boat and by bicycle. The nearest boat landing stage is in Melk, about a 25-minute drive from Purgstall.
